Dayanidhi Maran has accused those responsible for circulating his old videos, particularly the BJP, of attempting to gain “political mileage” by causing disturbances in society. This sparked another round of verbal clashes between DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran and the Bharatiya Janata Party, where Maran employed the proverb “jobless barbers catch hold of cats to shave its fur” in reference to his past remarks on north Indians.

Responding to a reporter’s question about the resurgence of old videos related to north Indians and senior DMK leaders on social media, the DMK MP stated, “There is a saying – ‘jobless barbers catch hold of cats to shave its fur.’ These people want to create some kind of ruckus, particularly the IT wing of the BJP, which is involved in this. They are trending it at the national level for their political mileage, which will not materialize.”

In response to Maran’s ‘jobless barbers’ remarks, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla criticized the comments, suggesting they reflect the elitist and casteist mindset of the DMK. Poonawalla expressed his discontent on social media, questioning if this statement is part of ‘Mohabbat ki Dukaan’ and highlighting Maran’s alleged insults towards Sanatan, Hindu Dharma, North Indians, and Hindi.

Earlier, a video clip of Maran went viral in which he purportedly made derogatory remarks about Hindi speakers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar who migrated to Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai condemned Maran’s ‘jobless barber’ remark, accusing him of excelling in degrading others by their profession or language. Annamalai expressed his dissatisfaction, stating that even repeated electoral defeats do not seem to shake the resolve of leaders in the I.N.D.I. Alliance.

Speaking to news agency PTI, Annamalai emphasized that Maran is a repeat offender, and while the video may be four years old, his intentions remain current, as DMK leaders continue such behavior.
