Television actress Rupali Ganguly, renowned for her role in the popular show Anupamaa, reflects on her early life challenges and her journey into the acting world, which began at the tender age of 12.

In a heartfelt account shared by Official Humans of Bombay, Rupali reminisces about her father, the esteemed director Anil Ganguly, who served as her inspiration. Recalling her childhood visits to his film sets, she fondly remembers being captivated by his meticulous direction. Little did she know then that she would soon find herself stepping into the world of acting, at the age of 12, when she was unexpectedly cast in one of her father’s films.

However, the path to pursuing her acting dreams was not without its hurdles. Rupali recounts the challenging times her family faced following her father’s two consecutive film failures. Despite setbacks, she persevered, taking on various odd jobs, including working in a boutique, catering, and even waiting tables at events where her father was a guest.

Her journey took a turning point when she ventured into television, eventually landing the lead role in the series Sukanya. Yet, she never forgot her father’s invaluable feedback, which motivated her to continuously hone her craft.

Rupali reflects on the profound impact of the iconic show Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai on her career trajectory, as well as the public’s surprise when she decided to take a hiatus from work.

Amidst personal loss and grieving her father’s passing, Rupali was offered the role of Anupamaa. Despite initial hesitation, she credits her supportive husband and producer Rajan Shahi’s unwavering belief in her abilities for her eventual acceptance of the role. Embracing the character of Anupamaa, Rupali feels a profound connection to her father’s legacy, believing it to be a story he would have cherished, with a strong female protagonist at its core.
