Delhi faced severe traffic congestion and transportation issues on New Year’s Day as large crowds gathered at India Gate and popular temples, including Akshardham Temple and Gurdwara Bangla Sahib. Commuters experienced difficulties due to a lack of available transport and higher auto-rickshaw fares. Traffic police had recommended using public transport instead of private vehicles. While residents complained about the traffic chaos and the absence of traffic police officials, street vendors capitalized on the increased footfall. Social media was flooded with grievances about the challenging traffic conditions in the city.
