Labuschagne was initially excluded from the preliminary squad for the tournament, but his impressive performance as a substitute during Australia’s ODI matches against South Africa and India changed the selectors’ minds. He showcased excellent form, including one century and two fifties.

Despite suffering from a broken hand, opening batter Travis Head has also been included in the 15-man squad, although he is expected to miss the beginning of the tournament.

George Bailey, Chair of Selectors for Cricket Australia, commented on the tough decision, stating, “We couldn’t carry both Travis and Ashton into the tournament with the injuries they have. We have decided to keep Travis in the squad, with the hope that he will be available for the mid-part of the tournament. Travis has been a crucial player in the ODI team, and we anticipate his return will provide a positive boost as we approach the latter stages of the competition.”
