Junior Mehmood, known for his roles in hit films such as Kati Patang, Mera Naam Joker, Parvarish, and Do Aur Do Paanch, has passed away at the age of 67 at his residence in Khar, Mumbai. The veteran actor, who had been battling stomach cancer, succumbed to the illness as his condition worsened on Friday. With a career spanning over five decades, Junior Mehmood contributed to more than 250 films.

News of Junior Mehmood’s struggle with stage 4 cancer had emerged two weeks ago. According to a statement from the actor’s family, “Junior Mehmood passed away at 2:15 am at his residence. He was suffering from stomach cancer. May his eternal soul rest in peace.”

Junior Mehmood’s son, Husnain, revealed, “We came to know about his fourth-stage stomach cancer only 18 days ago. We took him to Tata Memorial Hospital, where the dean informed us that treatment and chemotherapy at this stage would be very painful. The hospital suggested that we take care of him at home.”

Part of several blockbuster films, including Kati Patang, Mera Naam Joker, Parvarish, and Do Aur Do Paanch, Junior Mehmood, whose stage name was Naeem Sayyed, received the name from the late comedy icon Mehmood after their collaboration in the 1968 film Suhaag Raat.

Commencing his career as a child actor alongside Sanjeev Kumar in the film ‘Naunihal,’ Junior Mehmood later ventured into producing Marathi films. Recently, he expressed a desire to meet fellow actors Jeetendra and Sachin Pilgaonkar, both of whom eventually visited him. Sachin and Junior Mehmood had collaborated on films like ‘Bachpan,’ ‘Geet Gaata Chal,’ and ‘Brahmachari.’

The passing of Junior Mehmood marks the end of an illustrious career in the Indian film industry, leaving behind a legacy of memorable performances and significant contributions to the cinematic landscape. May his soul rest in peace.
