In Manipur’s Churachandpur district, a two-month curfew has been imposed following clashes between two groups that resulted in nearly 30 injuries. These clashes transpired ahead of a mass burial for 87 Kuki-Zomi victims of the ongoing ethnic conflicts between Meiteis and Kuki-Zomi tribes. In compliance with a Supreme Court directive, the bodies of victims, which had been in morgues for months, are being airlifted for burial. The curfew, implemented under Section 144 of CrPC, is aimed at preventing further violence and maintaining public peace. The clash originated from disputes over raising a Zomi flag and naming the mass burial site in Churachandpur. Since May, ethnic clashes in Manipur have claimed at least 196 lives.
