He mentioned that he had no alternative but to book an interstate taxi from Kanpur to Jhansi to prevent missing his connecting train.

During holidays and festivals, large crowds and train delays are typical, but the situation worsens in winter due to fog and reduced visibility across northern India. Numerous trains face delays or cancellations. A man from Kanpur recently shared his predicament on X (formerly Twitter) after his train was delayed by nine hours. He explained that he had no choice but to hire an interstate taxi from Kanpur to Jhansi to ensure he caught his connecting train on time. Despite holding a verified Tatkal ticket purchased for ₹1,500, he had to incur a cost of ₹4,500 for the cab journey to reach his destination promptly.

“The train I was supposed to board at 1.15 pm in Kanpur arrived 9 hours late. I had to catch the Rajdhani at Jhansi at 8.15 pm. I learned about the delay at 2 pm and had no option but to take an Ola for ₹4,500. The Tatkal ticket was bought for ₹1,500. Total loss: ₹6,000,” the user posted on X on Wednesday.

Numerous users also shared their experiences with train delays.

“My aunt traveled from Delhi to New York faster than my journey from Delhi to West Bengal (train is 16 hours late),” mentioned one user.

Another user added, “I am traveling on train number 12724 Telangana Express from Nagpur to Hyderabad. The train was supposed to arrive at 7.10 AM, but it reached at 3.30 PM. I have my night shift at 8 PM, but the train is running 9 hours late. Who is responsible for my loss of pay?”

Meanwhile, another user recounted having to stand throughout the entire journey despite having a confirmed ticket. In a post, Abhas Kumar Shrivastava described the initial challenges of navigating the crowded Rourkela Intercity train to reach his assigned seat. Upon reaching his reserved seat, Mr. Shrivastava found a pregnant woman occupying it. Instead of asking her to vacate the seat, he chose to stand by the train door for the entire two-hour journey.

“I reserved a seat four days prior and got a confirmed ticket. It was only after somehow entering the train that I realized I couldn’t even reach my seat number 64,” he wrote. “After an hour when I reached my seat, I found a pregnant lady sitting on it, so I just left and stood at the gate for two hours. Thank you for such a memorable journey and a confirmed ticket that let me stand for the entire trip.”
