In the Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 match against India, Pakistan captain Babar Azam’s decision to bowl first after winning the toss was mocked by former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar. Shoaib sarcastically referred to it as a “wise decision” and suggested that Pakistan was fortunate that the rain intervened to halt India’s strong start by openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. He also pointed out that rain had saved India in a previous group stage match, and this time it favored Pakistan.
Shoaib Akhtar expressed his sentiments in a viral video, saying that both Indian and Pakistani fans had been eagerly waiting for the match, and rain ultimately saved them. He mentioned that they would resume the game the next day in the same position, and the decision not to bowl first was wise.
Rain disrupted the India vs. Pakistan Super Four match, forcing it into a reserve day after just 24.1 overs of play. When play was interrupted, India was at 147-2 after Pakistan’s decision to bowl first in Colombo. This additional day was added to the match due to a prior rain-induced washout of a group stage meeting between the two teams in Pallekele.
