YS Sharmila, the chairperson of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), led a protest against the unfulfilled promises made during the separation of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The demonstration took place in front of the statue of Bhimrao Ambedkar at Andhra Bhavan in Delhi, alongside senior APCC leaders, including Manikam Thakor.
On social media platform ‘X,’ Sharmila posted, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised special status to Andhra Pradesh for ten years during a meeting in Tirupati, but why have the promises of division not been fulfilled yet?”
Addressing various issues, Sharmila raised questions about the implementation of the central government’s plan for privatizing the Visakhapatnam steel plant, completing the railway zone for the southern state, addressing concerns related to Dugarajapatnam port, and fulfilling other pending commitments. The protest aimed to draw attention to the unfulfilled assurances and seek accountability for the promises made during the separation of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
