Hypothermia Caution During New Year Celebrations: If your New Year’s plan involves smoking and drinking, it’s crucial to exercise caution as it heightens the risk of hypothermia. Learn about the reasons and precautions from yoga guru Swami Ramdev.

Countdown to the New Year: With only two days remaining until the New Year begins, you likely have your New Year’s Eve plans in place. Some may opt for a cozy evening at home with family, watching TV shows, while others plan to dance and revel in the festivities. Many have readied themselves for the party, viewing it as an opportunity to celebrate with friends, especially for the youth. However, those partaking in such activities should consider Prime Minister Modi’s appeal on Veer Baal Divas (Children’s Day) against substance use.

The Prime Minister emphasizes the necessity of a collective movement against addiction, recognizing that habits like smoking, alcohol consumption, and drug use have adverse effects on health. These practices impact the liver, lungs, heart, and nervous system, resulting in over 13 lakh lives lost annually due to tobacco-related issues in the country. Moreover, worldwide, the cancers caused by these substances lead to approximately 80 lakh deaths each year. In India, over 28 crore people are addicted to tobacco, and nearly 16 crore consume alcohol. For these individuals, the New Year often becomes an excuse to indulge, especially when the weather turns cold and there’s an increased demand for drinks and puffs.

While excessive alcohol consumption in cold weather can indeed lower body temperature, thereby increasing the risk of hypothermia, the more significant danger lies in the heightened risk of seven types of cancers associated with smoking and alcohol use. Breaking free from such habits and adopting yoga as an integral part of life, as advocated by Swami Ramdev, can help mitigate these risks.
