Jaipur (Rajasthan): Congress leader Sachin Pilot expressed optimism on Saturday, stating that his party is poised to secure another opportunity in the state. He emphasized that the people’s inclination is towards disrupting the trend of alternating governments this time. In an interview with ANI regarding the elections, the former Deputy Chief Minister of the state asserted, “I am confident that Congress will get another chance in the state (to return to power). We will garner the necessary numbers to form the government. The voters here want to support those who deliver and remain committed.”

He further emphasized, “The prevailing sentiment among the populace is towards changing the trend of alternating governments this time.”

Regarding any perceived discord with Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Pilot played down the issue, stating, “We have worked together (for the party). It is not about two or three people. The Congress unit of Rajasthan is united,” reaffirming party solidarity.

Voting commenced in 199 out of 200 assembly seats in Rajasthan on Saturday after intensive campaigning by major political parties, including the ruling Congress and BJP. Elections in the Karanpur constituency were postponed due to the demise of Congress candidate Gurmeet Singh Koonar.

The voting process commenced at 7 am and will continue until 6 pm, with robust security measures in place to ensure peaceful and fair elections. A total of 1,02,290 security personnel have been deployed to facilitate peaceful voting, including 69,114 police personnel, 32,876 Rajasthan Home Guard, Forest Guard, and RAC personnel, along with 700 companies of CAPF.

Vote counting is scheduled for December 3. In the 2018 elections, Congress secured 99 seats, while the BJP won 73. Ashok Gehlot assumed the position of Chief Minister with the support of BSP MLAs and independents.
