There is a renewed surge in COVID cases across different states of the country. The COVID-19 virus has once again reached Noida, Uttar Pradesh. It is reported that Noida has registered its first case of coronavirus in several months.

Noida, situated adjacent to Delhi, has now reported a case of COVID. It has been found that a resident of Noida has been infected with the coronavirus. This marks the first case of COVID-19 in Gautam Buddh Nagar district in the past few months. Dr. Sunil Sharma, the Chief Medical Officer of Gautam Buddh Nagar, stated that the infected patient is a 54-year-old man residing in Noida but working in a multinational company located in Gurugram.

Infected patient returned from Nepal Dr. Sharma mentioned, “The sample of the infected person has been sent to Delhi for genome sequencing, and we are awaiting the results.” District Surveillance Officer and Public Health Specialist Dr. Amit Kumar revealed that the patient had traveled to Nepal earlier this month and, upon returning, had also visited his office in Gurugram.

What did WHO say about the new variant? It is noteworthy that the World Health Organization (WHO) has classified the ‘JN.1’ variant of the coronavirus as a ‘Variant of Interest’ amid a rapid increase in cases. The WHO also stated that it does not pose a greater risk to global public health. On Tuesday, the World Health Organization stated that since the emergence of variants that pose risks to global public health at the end of 2020, it has started categorizing them as ‘Variants of Interest’ and ‘Variants of Concern.’

Recently, cases of the ‘JN.1’ variant have been reported in several countries, and instances of this variant are increasing worldwide. India has also reported cases of this variant. According to the World Health Organization, it is associated with the B.A.2.86 lineage, linked to the ‘Global Initiative on Sharing All Influenza Data’ (GISAID).
