Earlier this week, I casually scrolled through my Twitter feed when Sub-Inspector Vivek from CID caught my attention. A vintage photo of him was uploaded with the caption “If you know him, your childhood was awesome,” prompting a delightful response from the actor Viivek Mashru. The sentiment was incredibly endearing.
During my upbringing, the catchphrase ‘Daya, kuch toh gadbad hai’ had me glued to the television for hours. The presence of ACP Pradyuman and his intriguing cases marked a splendid era of Indian television. The sight of any CID cast member today easily evokes a sense of nostalgia and yearning in many of us.
Naturally, this tweet from Inspector Vivek, who played a significant role in making my childhood enjoyable, sparked my curiosity about the actor’s current endeavors. Especially considering it has been quite a while since we last saw him in the public domain.
This curiosity led me down a rabbit hole, and I found myself perusing his dynamic LinkedIn profile. To my surprise, the beloved actor from my childhood is now associated with CMR University. Furthermore, his career journey has been quite remarkable, involving nine career breaks and a series of transitions. He truly embodies versatility.
A recent tweet also claimed that he has now taken on the role of a Design Thinking Professor.
According to his detailed LinkedIn account, he had already amassed over four years of experience as a professional actor before his notable appearance in CID. His repertoire includes notable characters like Arnav in “Akkad Bakkad Bambey Bo” (2005), a youth-oriented entertainment show on Star Plus India, and JD in “Bombay Talking” (2005), an English drama centered around the Indian film industry on Zee Cafe India.
Following this, he became a cornerstone of our favorite show, CID, contributing to our cherished childhood memories for nearly six years before embarking on a sabbatical in 2012. Subsequently, he expanded his horizons by engaging in various roles such as an actor, cinematographer, dialogue writer, and co-producer for a short film. After a hiatus of nine months, he underwent a complete career transition and assumed the role of a Manager of Operations.
While pursuing a master’s degree in International Business, he served as a Lead Facilitator at a non-profit organization in Bengaluru from 2014 to 2015. Soon after, he took on the role of a marketing director at Indus Valley Schools. He dedicated over four years to this role, took a well-deserved break, and then assumed the position of a general marketing manager overseeing various educational institutions.
In 2021, Viivek Mashru joined the esteemed CMR Group of Institutions. Presently, he serves as the director of the Common Core Curriculum department, which is designed to equip students with essential life skills at CMR University. Many Twitter users are also captivated by his remarkable journey.
