Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, “Animal” features Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role, with Rashmika Mandanna portraying his girlfriend and eventual wife.
In a recent interview with Galatta Plus, filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga discussed a controversial scene from his latest film, “Animal.” Responding to a question about whether he included a scene where Ranbir Kapoor’s character, Ranvijay, compliments his girlfriend Gitanjani (played by Rashmika Mandanna) for having a ‘big pelvis’ for shock value, Vanga acknowledged the intention behind it, referring to it as a compliment.
Vanga explained the creative decision behind the scene, emphasizing that Ranbir’s character was attempting a unique approach to convey his emotions. He clarified that the character, in the context of the scene, was trying to explain a theory related to the film’s title and storyline. Vanga revealed that he initially considered shooting a more subtle moment where Ranbir’s character plays with flower petals and places his hand on Gitanjani’s feet but opted for a more shocking approach to maintain audience engagement.
Describing the scene’s continuity, Vanga shared that Ranbir’s character, unsure of how to express his feelings, ends up complimenting Gitanjani’s pelvis, believing it to be a way of expressing his desire for a future together, including marriage and children.
In the scene, Ranvijay tells Gitanjali that she has a “big pelvis” after she leaves her fiance for him. Gitanjali, seemingly irritated, questions if he is calling her fat. Ranvijay insists that it is a compliment, suggesting it means she has ‘child-bearing hips.’
“Animal” revolves around a toxic father-son relationship portrayed by Anil Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor, with Rashmika Mandanna playing the role of Gitanjali. The film explores their journey through the complexities of relationships, including marriage and parenthood.
Featuring an ensemble cast including Bobby Deol, Triptii Dimri, Suresh Oberoi, and Prem Chopra, “Animal” is produced by T-Series, Cine1 Studios, and Bhadrakali Pictures. Released on December 1, the film continues to perform well at the box office, prompting the announcement of a sequel by the makers.
