The Indian military recently conducted a series of successful trials for the BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles. Defense authorities reported that these extended-range missiles achieved precision hits on their designated targets and accomplished all mission objectives. The trials occurred over the past two days in the vicinity of the eastern seaboard archipelago.

BrahMos Aerospace, the entity responsible for the missile’s development, extended its congratulations to the Indian Air Force for the successful testing of the surface-to-surface variant of the BrahMos missile. In a statement on Wednesday, they praised the precision-strike launch, which hit the target spot-on while meeting all mission parameters. The message reaffirmed BrahMos Aerospace’s commitment to bolstering the firepower of the Indian Armed Forces and supporting India’s self-reliance initiative.

The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, a collaborative project between India and Russia, possesses the capability to be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft, or land platforms. Simultaneously, the “Make in India” initiative has led to a significant surge in India’s defense exports, reaching a record high of nearly ₹16,000 crores in the fiscal year 2022-23.

The Indian Defence Ministry announced last month that India successfully expanded its exports by selling major defense systems, including BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, Akash air defense systems, and artillery guns to friendly nations.

Furthermore, India is preparing to commence the manufacturing of BrahMos missiles in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, starting from March next year. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh confirmed this during a recent visit to his parliamentary constituency. He expressed that the manufacturing of BrahMos missiles, along with other defense-related components, would take place in the Uttar Pradesh Defense Industrial Corridor. Singh highlighted the progress of the BrahMos missile project and the plans for missile manufacturing in Lucknow. The Defense Industrial Corridor in Uttar Pradesh is making significant strides to facilitate defense production, with a vast amount of land already acquired for this purpose.
