In 2023, this app was downloaded 76.7 crore times, which is 20% more than in 2022. Following that, the Chinese social media app TikTok comes in second, with 73.3 crore downloads.
Since the ban on TikTok in India, most young people have started using Instagram. The popularity of this app has been steadily increasing since the introduction of the Reels feature, similar to short video content on TikTok. TikTok was banned in India in 2020, and Instagram rolled out the Reels feature the same year. After the introduction of the Reels feature, Instagram can now create short videos similar to TikTok.
Time Spent:
While Instagram has become number one in terms of downloads, TikTok still reigns supreme in terms of time spent on the app. Users spend an average of 95 minutes on the Chinese short video social media platform TikTok. In comparison, this time is 62 minutes on Instagram, 30 minutes on X, and 19 minutes on Snapchat.
According to App Annie, Instagram is significantly ahead of other social media apps in terms of downloads. This app has been downloaded the most not only on Google Play Store but also on the Apple App Store.
