Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma was present at the Wankhede Stadium to support her husband, Virat Kohli, during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 semifinal against New Zealand. Kohli made history by becoming the first batter to achieve 50 ODI centuries, contributing significantly to India’s 70-run victory. His innings of 117, his third hundred of the World Cup, set up India’s total of 397 for 4. After the match, Anushka Sharma expressed her emotions in a heartfelt social media post, referring to Kohli as “God’s Child” after his record-breaking century.
In her Instagram post, Anushka wrote, “God is the best scriptwriter! Utterly grateful to him for blessing me with your love and to watch you grow from strength to strength and achieve all that you have and will, being honest to yourself and to the sport always. You are truly God’s child.”
After surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most ODI hundreds, Kohli described the feeling as a dream. He emphasized his focus on playing the role assigned to him by the team in the tournament and highlighted the importance of consistency in adapting to different match situations.
Following his century, Kohli bowed to Tendulkar, who was also present in the stands. This historic knock ended India’s wait for a standout performance from Kohli in a 50-over World Cup knockout match, and he celebrated the achievement despite battling cramps.
“It’s the stuff of dreams. Sachin paaji was there in the stands. It’s very difficult for me to express it. My life partner (Anushka Sharma), my hero – he’s sitting there. And all these fans at the Wankhede. To get to 400 is amazing; a lot of credit needs to go to Shreyas. KL finished it with a flurry (of boundaries),” Kohli said during the break between the two innings in the semifinal match.
