After chairing the YSRTP meeting in Hyderabad on Tuesday, Sharmila had announced that she and other leaders would meet the top leadership of the Congress, including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, to make a significant announcement in Delhi.

Sharmila may receive a national-level role in the Congress after the merger, according to media reports. She is the daughter of the late Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, former Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, and the younger sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy.

Sharmila recently supported the Congress in the Telangana Assembly elections. She called for an end to alleged corrupt and anti-people governance under the leadership of B. R. S. led by former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR). In the assembly elections, B. R. S faced defeat, and Congress formed the government in Telangana for the first time under the leadership of Revanth Reddy.
