Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced that the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is planning to introduce new textbooks in the upcoming academic session. These new books will encompass topics such as India’s management of the COVID-19 pandemic, the G20 summit, and the Chandrayaan mission. The goal is to enhance students’ critical thinking, logical reasoning, and research-oriented mindset.

One significant addition to the curriculum for the academic year 2023-2024 is a chapter on the National War Memorial in the Class 7 Social Science syllabus. This chapter, titled ‘The National War Memorial: A Homage to our Brave Soldiers,’ has been included to highlight the sacrifices made by the Indian armed forces in service of the nation. The chapter aims to foster a sense of patriotism and national pride among young learners.

NCERT Director Dinesh Prasad Saklani emphasized that the incorporation of the National War Memorial chapter should have been undertaken earlier. The chapter was introduced in textbooks released in March of the current year.

The inclusion of this chapter not only imparts knowledge about India’s armed forces and their history but also encourages an understanding of the sacrifices made by soldiers. The collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Education intend to nurture values of patriotism, duty, courage, and sacrifice among school children.

In conclusion, the Union Education Minister highlighted NCERT’s plans to introduce new textbooks featuring topics like COVID-19 management, the G20 summit, and the Chandrayaan mission. Additionally, a significant move is the inclusion of a chapter on the National War Memorial in Class 7 textbooks, designed to instill patriotism and honor the sacrifices of the Indian armed forces. The joint initiative of the Ministries of Defence and Education seeks to imbue school children with values crucial for nation-building and active citizenship.
