Lalduhoma’s Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) achieved a resounding victory, securing 27 out of 40 assembly constituencies in Mizoram, as revealed by the results declared on December 4.

Leader Lalduhoma, making history in the Mizoram 2023 Assembly Elections by defeating the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), is scheduled to be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Mizoram today. This victory marks the first instance, since the establishment of the state in 1987, where a party other than the Congress or the MNF has assumed power.

On December 6, Lalduhoma met with Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, officially staking a claim to form the government in the state. The swearing-in ceremony is set to take place on December 8 at Rajbhavan.

Following the meeting with the Governor, Lalduhoma shared with ANI, “We discussed the formation of the new government. He (the governor) instructed me to form the government, which will be accomplished on Friday, and next week we’ll have the first session. We are very pleased and honored by the Governor’s support. Our primary focus is on procuring agricultural products, and we have identified four items for that purpose.”

Lalduhoma, a former police officer who joined the Indian Police Service after completing his BA degree from North East Hill University, had served as the security in-charge for then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi due to his achievements and capabilities.

Expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support, Lalduhoma outlined plans to reveal his government’s priorities in a press conference after being sworn in as Chief Minister. “This is a blessing from God and the people, for which I am very happy and thankful. We anticipated such a significant win since the previous year, understanding the sentiments of the people. We have a clear mandate, and after the swearing-in ceremony, I will hold a press meeting to announce our top priorities as the government,” Lalduhoma conveyed to ANI.
